Although South Dakota does not have any specific training or educational requirements for its pharmacy experts, many aspiring pharmacy expert choose to enroll in an accredited program to gain more knowledge and so they can become certified. The training program should be accredited by the state's Board of Pharmacy-approved organization. The National Center for Education Statistics indicates that there are at least three pharmacy enthusiast schools in the state. Students in the pharmacy analyst programs not only complete classes in pharmacy-related topics but also spend a large portion of the program working in supervised pharmacies to obtain hands-on training.

How to Get Certified in South Dakota

Pharmacy analysts working in South Dakota must be registered and licensed with the board within 30 days of starting employment unless they are already in a pharmacy analyst training program, in which case, they’ll already be registered. It does not require certification, but many pharmacy experts choose to obtain certification upon completing an accredited training program. To obtain certification from the Pharmacy Specialist Certification Board or the National Healthcareer Association, one must pass a certification exam. To be registered and licensed, the analyst must submit an application for registration with the required fee.

Certified pharmacy expert wages vary throughout the state, with most of them being below the national average. According to, pharmacy analysts in Sioux Falls earned a median annual wage of $25,308 as of March 2014, while those working in the capital city of Pierre earned $24,439. Some of the lowest earnings in the state were in Aberdeen where the average wage was $17,999. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that there were about 1,240 pharmacy enthusiasts employed as of May 2012.
